In most cases Windows Media Player streams (.asx) will work with Linux using MPlayer or Xine based players if you have the windows codecs installed. MPlayer has a "plug-in" available for Mozilla-based web browsers that usually works. Real Player streaming (.ram., .rm, .smil) will work with either "Real Player for Linux" or the free and open source "Helix Player". MP3/M3U/PLS streams will work with either XMMS Media Player, VLC Media Player or Miro. Ogg Vorbis will work with any free and open source software player on any operating system.
