Moglen is in charge of enforcement of the GNU General Public License and also is responsible for drafting the new revised "GPL Version 3". This lecture is an absolutely fascinating talk on what free software can do for humanity in the 21st Century. Audio and video recordings of the "FSOSS Symposium" (Free Software and Open Source Software) organized by Seneca College and held at Toronto's York University in the fall of 2006. it. At present, all internet traffic is supposed to be treated
equally. However, telecom conglomerates are pushing for the
creation of a "two tiered" internet. A "fast lane" for content
providers who can afford to pay, and a "slow lane" for everyone else.
If you think this is strictly an American issue, you would be completely wrong. The situation in Canada is actually worse. In 2005, one Canadian ISP actively blocked its customers access to a website that was critical of the company's practices. Others are slowing down Bittorrent and VOIP traffic. "Real Player" (or Helix Player) to listen. The programme is
carried live at 5 PM on Saturdays (Central North American time) or
23:00 UTC in winter, 22:00 UTC in summer on many National Public Radio
(NPR) stations across the U.S.
A number of stations rebroadcast the programme at 1 pm (Central North American time) on Sundays...that's 17:00 UTC in summer and 18:00 UTC in winter. Most NPR member stations stream audio in one format or another! You can find a list of stations that carry the programme here. In Canada if you live within 100 KM or so of the Canada/US border you can usually pick up one of the local NPR stations. In the Toronto area you can listen to "A Prairie Home Companion" on WNED-FM 94.5 on Saturdays and WNED-AM 970 on Sundays. WNED is out of Buffalo, NY.
