RADIO PICS!Here are
some interesting radios from my collection!
Philips L4X26T
manufactured in the Netherlands about 1962-63![]() This
radio is not currently in working order. It needs to have
the battery compartment rebuilt. It covers the AM (mediumwave)
band, and the shortwave spectrum from 1.7 to 21 MHz. When working
it has absolutely incredible "room filling" audio! It has a
rectangular-shaped pop-up "loop" antenna for the shortwave
bands. The case is actually wooden but has a kind of
leatherette cover.
![]() VEF-202 manufactured in the 1970's
in the USSR
This radio is not currently
in working order. It also needs a battery compartment
rebuild (and maybe some other things!). It covers the long,
medium and shortwave broadcasts bands between and 25 meters (3.95-5.7
MHz., 5.85-6.3 MHz., 7-7.4 MHz., 9.5-9.775 MHz., 11.7-12.1
MHz.). The bandscale is marked in meters (even long and
medium wave!) and reads from left to right instead of from right to
left as was the practice in the former Soviet Union.
This particular model was designed for the domestic Soviet market as the writing on it is entirely written in Russian cyrillic script. ![]() This
radio is in good working order. Two versions of the VEF 206
were made. This particular one is quite similar to the VEF
202, with the exception of the addition of the 16, 19 and 13 meter
shortwave broadcast bands. This is an export version as the
writing on it uses the western alphabet.
![]() Realistic TRF 12-656 made in Taiwan (1970's) There's a popular "myth" that
everything sold under Radio Shack's brand name is "crap". That's
certainly not the case! Over the years they produced some
good stuff and some crappy stuff. The Realistic TRF 12-656 was
certainly "good stuff". It has a "tuned radio frequency"
design and is quite good at pulling in distant signals. It
was relatively cheap and many hobbyists modified them with a 4 KHz.
Murata filter. This unit still works today!
RCA Model 85-T2 made in Montreal about 1937![]()
