Virtual City
- Think Googlemaps is cool? This is even cooler
(although to some extent it's powered by Googlemaps!)
Virtual City is a work in progress, but it provides "street level"
photographic "maps" of just about every single major street in
Toronto. Do you want to "see" what the corner
of Bay & King Streets looks like?. Go to Virtual
City!!
I understand that "next" Virtual City plans to "do" Montreal and down the road most other major Canadian cities.
EH.NET's
"How Much is That" - Interesting site on
economic history from Miami University. This site tracks the cost
of living over the last 300 years, currency valuations, gold prices
over the last 800 years etc. Did you know that in 2005 it
would take nearly a quarter million U.S. dollars to equal the
purchasing power of $10,000 US. in 1850 ? That's the kind
of stuff you'll find out here!
Babelfish - The
Alta Vista search engine's online translation software. You can
"cut and paste" passages of text into "Babelfish" and it will translate
it from one language to another. Currently can translate between
English, simplified and traditional Chinese, Dutch, French, German,
Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Battlestar Galactica-
Are you an old "Star Trek" fan suffering from withdrawl symptoms
because there isn't a "current" series? "Battlestar
Galactica" is definitely for you! No this isn't the campy
"Star Wars" rip-off of the late 1970's, this is very well done
indeed! It's shot in Vancouver and alot of the actors and
actresses are Canadian.
The "new" Battlestar Galactica airs on the "Space
Channel" in Canada, the "Sci-Fi Channel" in the
U.S. (they block access to the site outside the USA...so yes your web browser is working properly), and "Sky
One" in the UK.
